Guest Host for Creative Cards - Chloe

Can you remember the very first card you made?Yes I can totally remember the first card I made - it was a stamped butterfly coloured with coloured pencils mounted onto an A6 card with some handmade paper and glitter glue! I think my Gran might even still have it! Who is your inspiration in the craft world?I would have to say it would be my Grandma, she's the one who got me started crafting from when I was about 7 and really inspired my passion for stamping. She's very arty too and does lots of different crafts - over the years she has done mosaics, painting, teddy bear making and lots more! When do you come up with your ideas & designs?I'm constantly drawing and coming up with new ideas, I just love playing with new goodies! I tend to draw for myself first as to what I want and can envisage on a card or finished project then go from there and one design tends to lead to another! What was your first “when I grow up I want to be….?”That's a difficult one! I guess I&…

Zen Colouring Books

The final card I have made with this one sheet is different again:

This time I used a mask with dots, which I inked through to create my background.  I used the fine end of the smooth sponge to colour the centre of my flowers.

Now, using a quickie glue pen, which has a fine tip, so allows precise application of glue - follow the lines of the flower and cover with glitter.  This is so easy, but looks really effective.

Mat and layer, with ribbon, coloured paper and a few jewels, and a third card you have made.

Zen Colouring in Books

My second post in this series uses the same colouring book, in fact the same sheet!  Have a look at my previous post to see the details.  This time however, I have used gilding waxes:

If you would like to get the gilding waxes, we have a number of colours, which you will find by following this link: Cosmic Shimmer Gilding Wax
Before colouring the flowers I coloured the background. I sponged the ink on the paper, and then flicked water onto it, to add extra detail.  The inks (which I seem to be using a lot of late) are
Cosmic Shimmer Colour Cloud Ink Creative Expressions Smoothies
I added a little blending soloution to my gilding wax, and mixed it with a paint brush.  This will allow you to use the gilding wax as a paint.  They dry with a brilliant sheen.
I cut one of the flowers from the excess paper, and decided how to decoupage it onto the first flower.  Take photo's to decide how to place it:

I then simply matted it onto black card, and finished with a little black glitter glue:

Zen Adult Colouring Books

The passion for Colouring books for us grown ups is HUGE.  People have fallen in love with colouring.  It's amazing, as so many people are trying their hand at art without feeling pressured, or feeling like they can not do it.  They're just giving it a go, and reaping the benefit of the wonderful effects crafting gives us. The calm of creating, and pride of completing something beautiful.

Now, a lot of us crafters have been trying to tell people how good colouring in was for years!! Lets hope lots of people who thought they couldn't craft, will now start to find the wealth of crafty goodness available to them.

If you have been crafting for years, however, have you also been tempted by the colouring in books?  Have you, like me, looked at them, and loved the designs, but thought "What else can I do with these". I decided to have a play, and will do 3 posts with different finishes, from just one sheet from the stunning Botanical Pad.  If you would like this pad, foll…

Let us introduce you.....Craft Yourself Silly Hayley Smith

This week we are going to introduce you to one of the lovely guests who shares her infectious inspiration with the Hochanda viewers, it Hayley from Crafty Yourself Silly:
Craft Yourself Silly is a great name for a company - how did the company evolve, and who chose the name?
The company developed from the craft classes we were teaching through the pottery painting business I used to have with my mum, and from there came the kits and the rest is history.   Although it has happened so quickly we’re only 2 1/2 years old as a company and have grown to a team of 8 and we’re having a blast.  It was me who chose the name, I wanted something that was fun because that’s exactly what craft should be.

I love that you bring us products that are designed to be functional, look brilliant but are all achievable.  Is it tricky coming up with new product ranges and ideas?
We’re always looking for new ideas as craft is such a fast moving industry and for us we tend to look back at older crafts and try to…

Sue Wilson's Poinsettia

I had to use that beautiful die set again.  And I wanted to show you a variation on the technique I covered in the previous post.

I'll start with my shopping list:

Sue Wilson Poinsettia Die:Sue Wilson Poinsettia
Couture Creations Joy: Joy Die
Pine Cones: Finishing Touches
Cosmic Shimmer Glitters: Glitter Jewels Set
Double sided Adhesive Sheets: Double sided adhesive sheet

And this is where we're headed:

Have a look at the post previous to this to see how to make the lovely sparkly poinsettia, it's precisely the same process - but to set the colour I have simply applied ink to the sparkle after I have die cut the petals.  This allowed me to graduate the colour a little.  I used a rich red brilliance pad, and just sponged the colour on.  As it's a brilliant pad it will dry on the glitter.  I decided not to use the edge die for this one, just to see what it would look like - and I'm really happy.

Cut the Joy shadow die from decorative red paper, and the actual word out of wh…

Sue Wilson's Poinsettia

Hi again, it's Jenny back with you.  And I am utterly loving this set of dies from Sue Wilson.  It's one of  those sets that goes with so many other die collections, stamps and papers.  It's a must have.

Now, if you would like to add the dies from Sue to your collection, you can find them here:

Sue Wilson Die Collections

I have teamed it with quite a few products, I'll do a shopping list for you:

Couture Creations die:           Merry Christmas Die
Cosmic Shimmer Snow set:   Glitter Shimmer Set
Double sided adhesive sheet: Double sided adhesive sheet
Sue Wilson Embossing Folder: Poinsettia embossing folder

This is the card I have made for you today:

Really happy with this card, and it's nice and easy.  First take a sheet of double sided adhesive, and peel one protective layer off and stick it to a piece of paper.  Take the second protective sheet off, and cover it with some of the sprinkles from the Cosmic Shimmer set.  These are all slightly different.  Don't complete…

Introducing the Team......Becky

We promised you the Hochanda team were full to the brim with talented people - here's the lovely Becky......

Being part of the buying team must be really exciting - especially in a brand new company.  Are you enjoying the challenge of getting new companies and products to share with the viewers?
This is a very exciting role! I spend a lot of time sourcing companies and products to bring on to Hochanda; I love researching new product (and testing them out)!, meeting all of the different suppliers and learning all about their processes and products. Then the team put exciting ideas together for shows to inspire the viewers to pursue a new craft project. We have some great shows coming up to look forward to!
Tell us a little bit about your creativity, what did you study at Uni? I studied Textiles Design at Loughborough University and went on to specialise in Printed Textiles, both screen printing and digital printing. I have always loved drawing and making things, it definitely runs in my…
