How To Give A Contemporary Twist To Nordic Themed Christmas Card by Leanne McAlpine

Hello again everyone,

Today I’m sharing with you how to create a contemporary Nordic Christmas card using the new Nordic range from Crafter’s Companion.

This card is really easy to make and although I’ve used fabric you could easily use scraps of paper instead.

I have purposely not used even pressure when stamping the script stamp to give a more distressed look. I tend not to add sentiments to my cards until I’m going to use them so the sentiment could be placed anywhere on this card.

Here is what you will need:

●     Card blank - I’ve used 6x6 here

●     Hessian

●     Nordic themed fabric

●     Used drinks can

●     Bird mixed media die from Nordic range

●     Script stamp

●     Co-ordinating ribbon

●     Twine

●     Button

●     Sue Wilson holly branch die

●     Kraft card

●     Faux pine branch

●     Gold glitter embossing powder

●     Pigment embossing pad

●     Heat embossing tool

●     Die-cutting machine – I use Gemini

So here is what I did;

1. Stamp script stamp using clear embossing pad to left side of card and cover with embossing powder; heat it to set.
2. Cut a rough square of hessian and patterned fabric and glue to card front with the patterned fabric slightly overlapping the hessian.
3. Cut up a used drinks can and cut bird die from this.
4. Fix to the overlap of fabric using hot glue.
5. Cut the holly branch from craft card; snip into the branch to give yourself three pieces. Glue two of the pieces to the top left-hand corner of the card.
6. Tie a bow from co-ordinating ribbon and fix on top of branch ends.
7. Tie a bow from twine and glue this on top of the ribbon bow.
8. Attach pine branch as shown using hot glue.
9. Glue button to cover knot in twine bow.

You may have issues getting the tin to lay flat. I have found that storing pieces of tin under my Gemini helps to flatten it slightly. Make sure you press down firmly when fixing the tin die cut to the card front as it will still try to curl up!

Don’t forget you can change the colour of the tin by using gilding polish or inks … have a play and see what you come up with.

Below is another card I have made in a similar way and I have altered the colour of the tin by using gilding polish on it.
